The guiding idea

gahwa. Saudi coffee, light and scented with cardamom, poured for every guest, often before a word of business is said.

In Saudi Arabia a meeting usually starts with gahwa: a small cup of light, cardamom scented coffee, poured for the guest first and refilled until they give the cup a gentle shake. Nobody hurries it, because the coffee is how two people decide whether they trust each other. A British firm that arrives with a slide deck and no introduction is rarely offered a second cup. One that arrives through someone both sides already know is halfway there before the coffee is poured.

Every club has an idea like this one, and it belongs to the place rather than to us. It is not a slogan we handed out.

The host

Abdur Rahman Ilott, known as AR, holds both ends of the Bridge from the United Kingdom. He is Chief Commercial Officer at REG-1, a UK legal and regulatory technology company whose AI tools help compliance, risk, data protection and legal teams cut hours of manual work. His career has run through logistics, export, data and analytics, and in Saudi Arabia it included opening the first Aramco site office in DHL's history, while he was a territory manager there. He holds a first class BA from SOAS, University of London, and is one of the most active connectors on My Most Trusted, with 148 introductions made.

Abdur Rahman Ilott is a real person, based in United Kingdom, not a logo. That is the point. Somebody has to know both people for an introduction to be worth anything.
