Castle Hill. The pink granite hill in the middle of Townsville. You can see it from almost anywhere in the city, and most of the city walks up it.
Castle Hill stands nearly 300 metres over the middle of Townsville, and it does something no other landmark here does: it puts everybody on the same path. Before work, the tradie, the surgeon, the student from JCU and the owner of the café on Flinders Street are all on the same track to the top, nodding at each other on the way up. Nobody climbs it to be introduced, but plenty of Townsville business has started with 'I see you up the hill most mornings'. This club is that path, made on purpose.
